My Story

It was my frustration with a pedestal sink that resulted in the creation of the Hot Iron Holster®.

As a busy mom of daughters, ages 3 and 1, it was in my downstairs guest bathroom where I found myself stealing a few minutes trying to get ready in the mornings — in between flipping pancakes, doing loads of laundry and changing diapers.

Day after day, I would stand in this bathroom and watch my hot curling iron slip into the sink and my flat iron fall to the floor as I tried to balance these devices on the sides and back of my pedestal sink. They were hot and hazardous and as an emergency room nurse, I knew that this was a formula for disaster. My frustration with my situation was leading to a few bad hair days of my own!

So, I checked locally and on-line to try to find something to hold my curling iron. I was disappointed to discover that the only holders available required a countertop or a wall for mounting. I didn't have a countertop and I wanted something that was easily removable - not permanently mounted on the wall of my guest bathroom.

When I couldn't find what I wanted, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I made it.

FrankensteinDusting the cobwebs off my sewing machine, I grabbed a silicone oven mitt and a hot pad from my kitchen, and stitched the two together. Then I sewed a pocket into the hot pad and filled it with a bag of coins for weight. I placed the end with the hot pad inside the sink and flipped the oven mitt over the edge. Into the mitt went my heated curling iron. The weight of the coins kept everything in place. The heat resistant, silicone oven mitt acted like "a holster" on my sink safely holding my hot iron when I needed to set it down. The contraption (nicknamed "Frankenstein" by my husband) wasn't pretty, but it worked!!

And then it occurred to me that I was probably not alone in this dilemma. I imagined that there were a lot of busy women multitasking every day in small bathrooms that did not provide them the counter space they needed.

So from an oven mitt and a hot pad, I designed the Hot Iron Holster. Not just for me but for you, too!

I made it big enough so there's room for you to store your blow dryer, hair brushes and other essentials when not in use. And because I believe that getting ready should be fun, I have given you some eye-popping colors to choose from!

So Morning Mom Warrior, multi-tasker extraordinaire, this Hot Iron Holster is for you! Consider the battle for limited counter space—Done and Won!

Thanks for your interest and excitement about my product. I hope you love it as much as I do!

Sincerely,
Erin Balogh
